Deepika Padukone unveils Namita Jain Jaldi Fit Book - Photos

Deepika's sudden growth spurt

Are Deepika and Siddharth Mallya dating?

Salman Khan's joint party for his sister Arpita and brother Arbaaz's birthdays on August 5 saw a huge star turnout. And for Deepika Padukone, it was the party where she showed up with Siddharth Mallya, who seems now to officially be the new man in her life.

Deepika and Siddharth, the son of business tycoon Vijay Mallya, have been seen together many times this year. They were spotted together at Lakme Fashion Week (where Deepika walked the ramp), at several IPL matches (the Mallyas own Royal Challengers Bangalore team), and now by coming to Salman's party together, it looks like Deepika and Siddharth are no longer hiding the fact that they are a couple.

The two entered Salman's party together and stayed together through it. And Deepika seemed really happy with the company!

Also at Salman's party was his ex-girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani, who's married to cricketer Mohd Azharuddin. Their marriage is said to be in trouble, because of Azhar's alleged affair with badminton player Jwala Gutta. Jwala has now filed for divorce from her husband Chetan Anand.

So what does this mean for Salman and Sangeeta? It's plain to see that the former couple is still very close. Sangeeta spent most of her time at the party with Salman and his family, and apparently didn't even speak to most other people. Will Salman-Sangeeta's relationship change in the future? Watch this space for updates.

Neil's first on-screen kiss with Deepika

How the conservative actor agreed to the liplock for 'Lafange Parindey'

Deepika Padukone has kissed Saif Ali Khan on screen, but her new co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh hadn't kissed on camera. The conservative actor had no choice but to succumb to a liplock for Yashraj Films' 'Lafange Parindey'.

Neil has pulled out the plug on his no-kissing clause as he was virtually forced to do a long, lingering kissing scene with Deepika.

Director Pradeep Sarkar and Deepika had to use every possible power of persuasion before Neil abandoned his chastity vow.

"At first Neil was totally against the kiss with Deepika. He has refused to kiss in all his films," said a source close to the project.

"In fact his first director, Sriram Raghavan, threw a fit when Neil refused to kiss Rimi Sen. In his second film, 'Tera Kya Hoga Johnny', director Sudhir Mishra insisted Neil kiss Shahana Goswami, but the actor refused. Even in 'Jail' where there was an intimate scene with Mugdha Godse, Neil refused to kiss," the source added.

Conservative to the core, Neil plunged into his first kiss only after the director assured him that the romantic relationship needed a culmination.

"Pradeep persuaded Neil and he finally saw his director's point of view. But the actor was nervous. Deepika had kissed before on screen. Not Neil," the source said.

"He first suggested a peck. But was finally persuaded to do a long, torrid smooch comparable in intensity and duration with Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor's kiss in 'Raja Hindustani'," the source added.

When contacted, Neil said: "I can't talk about this. But, yes, we've gone completely by the requirements of the script. And 'Lafange Parinde' is my first love story."

Deepika gets a desi makeover

Deepika Padukone has transformed her look. She will be seen riding a bicycle in a saree in her next film Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se. The actress is usually seen in in bikinis and short dresses, but since she plays freedom fighter Kalpana Dutta in the film set in pre-Independence India, she will be seen in Bengal cotton sarees. Neeta Lulla has designed her sarees for the Ashutosh Gowariker film.

Kalpana Dutta played a key role in the Chittagong Uprising of 1930. The film is based on the book Do And Die, written by Kalpana's daughter-in-law Manini Chatterjee.

Abhishek Bachchan is cast opposite Deepika. Abhishek plays Surya Sen . The movie is being shot at Goa and Mumbai and is slated to release on December 3.

Deepika as nurse?

Kareena and Saif's surprise choice

Who's the star approached for a role in their movie 'Agent Vinod'?

Saif Ali Khan's home production 'Agent Vinod' stars real-life girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, and now he's going to have another B'wood hottie in the movie. Buzz is that Deepika Padukone has been approached to play an important role in the the film.

Of course, Deepika and Saif worked together in his first home production 'Love Aaj Kal', but it's been known that Kareena was never happy with that casting choice. She'd said openly that she hadn't liked her 'Jab We Met' director Imtiaz Ali having chosen Deepika for the role.

But now that Deepika has been approached for 'Agent Vinod', we assume it's happened with Kareena's approval. So has Bebo forgotten and forgiven? In the interests of her man's movie, looks like that's just what's happened.

Deepika likes the character she plays in 'Lafangey Parindey'

Lead actors playing visually challenged characters is not new, but for Deepika Padukone it was a first. She describes it as her toughest role yet but also says she is exactly like the heroine - a woman who is self-confident, ambitious and never gives up.

"For me, this role out of all the films that I have done was the most challenging. It's not been easy. It required a lot of focus and concentration. I had to observe a lot of blind people before I could play this role," Deepika said.

"I think I identify with the character Pinky a lot because she is someone who is extremely self-assured. She is extremely confident, knows exactly what she wants. She is ambitious and she never gives up, which is exactly how I am," she said.

This time director Pradeep Sarkar has teamed up with Deepika Neil Nitin Mukesh and a bunch of other actors to narrate the story of a group of youngsters living in the back streets of Mumbai. Releasing Aug 20, it will see Neil playing a boxer who fights blindfolded, while Deepika will be seen as a visually challenged girl who can dance on skates.

"The biggest challenge was to pretend that I was not seeing. There were no supporting tools like black goggles or a stick with me to make it obvious that I am blind.

"For example, we friends are sitting together and discussing something and one of them says, 'arre dekh na' and then realises I can't see. Or he removes a glass a bit aside spontaneously not realising I couldn't see that...So everyone had to focus and give a lot of attention all the time while shooting the film," said Deepika.

The actress along with other cast and crew spent time with visually challenged people to understand their behavioural nuances and figure out counter actions.

"It took around six months of reading and interacting. There were lots of physical movements I had to get used to. It's like feeling things around you without actually being able to see them.

"We didn't visit any blind school, but all of us met a lot of blind people... it was not just for me but also very important for Neil and the group of friends I am interacting with in the film, even for 'dada' (Sarkar) to see how it is to interact with the blind. So I think it was a group process for all of us," she said.

Deepika says she didn't find it nerve-wracking to do the implausible stunts.

"As I have been an athlete and a sportsperson before, I think it just makes it much easier and interesting for me. I think to be able to do stunts, you need to be physically fit. It needs a lot of dedication, it needs a lot of control on the kind of food you are eating. So it was a lot of discipline," said Deepika.

It's her zeal for sports that gave her the courage to train in scuba diving and sky diving.

"The skating is something I had to learn for the film, but the scuba diving and this sky diving is something I have done for myself. It's always nice to challenge your limits. I always thought that I was scared of heights until I jumped off a plane. Today when I fly in a plane and look outside, it doesn't feel like anything," said Deepika.

After ‘Lafangey Parindey’, Deepika has two films – ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ and ‘Break Ke Baad’ - in queue for release this year.

The actress doesn't get bogged down by work pressure; neither does she get jittery by audience expectation.

"I don't consider it as work pressure, as I enjoy doing it. But I feel very relaxed when I spend my time alone at home after I pack up every day or I speak to my parents and spend time with them.

"I don't expect people to expect anything. I know I have given it my best.

I obviously hope the best for every film," said Deepika.

Deepika's new tattoo

Deepika Padukone must love her body art. When she was seeing Ranbir Kapoor, she got a tattoo of his initials on the nape of her neck. Now the actress has got a new one. It's in the shape of an anklet, on her left ankle, and she's been dressing to show it off.

Deepika has been out and about wearing short dresses in the past few days, and we've been getting to see her tattoo. Check out these pictures of her at the 'Lafangey Parindey' press meet yesterday (July 19) where you can see the payal tattoo clearly. And when Deepika was shooting at Mehboob Studios before that she wore an outfit of a similar length, again showing off the tattoo.

And she's still got the RK tattoo too! It seems the latest tattoo was painful to acquire but DP bore it all because she really wanted it.

Deepika, Neil at "Lafangey Parindey" Press Meet - Photos

Neil, Deepika and the smelly, rotten fish!

You can see from the promos that Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone had some tough stunts to shoot for Pradeep Sarkar's 'Lafange Parindey'. But apart from that daredevilry, their training sessions also saw them working with rotten fish! And the experience almost had them choking!

It seems that the smell was so bad that the crew had to find cloth so that Deepika and Neil could cover their noses, and get some protection from the pungent odour. But the stars were professional through the shoot, probably because director Pradeep Sarkar gave them no choice but to work with the smelly fish.

Deepika over Katrina

Salman wants Deepika Padukone for the remake of the South film Bodyguard

Buzz is that Atul Agnihotri's remake of the South flick Bodyguard with brother-in-law Salman Khan will star Deepika Padukone. Katrina Kaif was Atul's first choice but Sallu feels the Om Shanti Om girl is more apt for the role.

A source says, "Salman is keen on working with Deepika. He feels they will look good on screen. When Atul suggested Katrina's name, he shot it down saying the project needed a fresh pairing. He's watched the original and thought Deepika would fit the role perfectly."

Both Sallu and Dippy have had opportunities to work together in the past. The star wanted to work with her in Anees Bazmee's Ready, but talks fizzled out and Asin stepped in.

Salman and Kat were last seen together in Yuvvraaj (2008). Even though the film didn't work at the box-office, they had offers to work together. However, both chose not to work opposite each other. While Salman signed Zarine Khan for his home production Veer, Kat went on a signing spree with Ranbir Kapoor.

The source adds that the star is keen on repeating Zarine in Sajid Nadiadwala's Kick. "He's keen on signing new talent as opposed to working with the same faces."
    Atul remained unavailable for comment.

A young man who is attracted to people with heroic qualities and follows them like a bodyguard. But the twist comes when he is hired to accompany a businessman's gorgeous daughter to college as a bodyguard. The Malayalam film Bodyguard features Dileep and Nayantara. Its Tamil version is being made with Asin and Vijay.

Deepika reveals her sari promise

Here's why the star chose to dress 'fully Indian' at Cannes

As a starry-eyed teenager, she wanted to represent her country at an international event, wearing the national costume. On her very first red carpet appearance at the Cannes International Film Festival, actress Deepika Padukone did just that and with style that wowed one and all.

"Long ago, when I had started modelling I had promised myself that whenever I attend an international event I'd wear a sari because I'd rather represent my country in the national costume than in western clothes. I get enough opportunities at home to wear western clothes. When I'm seen at an international event, I'd rather be fully Indian," Deepika said.

The 24-year-old, who attended the event as the face of Chivas Regal, opted for a Rohit Bal - off white, slightly embroidered sari with touches of gold.

When told that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a gown, Deepika said: "I wouldn't like to comment on others. Speaking for myself, I find the sari very Indian and yet very sensuous. I wore an off-white Rohit Bal creation on the red carpet. It felt good to be so Indian so far away from from home."

Deepika had reportedly made discreet inquiries about what Aishwarya would wear before deciding on her own look. The 36-year-old 'Cannes regular' looked great this year in a violet blue fully embroidered tulle and mousseline gown from Lebanese designer Elie Saab.

Deepika's two-day whirlwind tour to the Cannes Film Festival also included sight-seeing. On day two of her trip, she took off on her own to take in the sights and sounds of the scenic seaside town.

"There's so much to Cannes besides the festival. In fact, the first time when I came to Cannes in 2002, I was here not for the festival but as a tourist. I remember I had stood outside the venue of the Cannes film festival and taken pictures. I had promised myself that next time I'd be back as part of the festival...and here I am," she said.

According to Deepika, the best thing about the event was the fact that there was unconditional acceptance for Indian cinema.

"Here at Cannes, they aren't looking at me or anyone else from Bollywood as oddities. Even if I was in a saree, I didn't feel marginalised or ethnic. I felt...at home!"

Who's the Cannes Style Queen?

Aishwarya, Deepika and Mallika all rocked the fest, but who did it best so far?

Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone and Mallika Sherawat - the three Bollywood ladies at the Cannes International Film Festival this year. Aishwarya, of course, is a Cannes veteran. She's been attending the fest every year since 2002 when 'Devdas' was screened there, in following years as one of L'Oreal's global faces. Mallika was at Cannes in 2005 to promote 'The Myth' in which she starred with Jackie Chan. Meanwhile this year was Deepika's first at the international film fest.

Aishwarya has had her share of misses when it comes to Cannes red carpet outfits. In her early years there, she chose some unflattering creations. But lately she has been sticking to classy couture gowns and doing much better for it.

This year, it's been a thumbs up from designers to Deepika, who some believe stole the limelight with her attire on her very first red carpet appearance at Cannes as against the experienced Aishwarya.

The 36-year-old looked great this year as well in a violet blue fully embroidered tulle and mousseline gown from Lebanese designer Elie Saab on Day 1, but 24-year-old Deepika made a good choice in her first go itself.

The young actress, who attended the event as the face of Chivas Regal, opted for a Rohit Bal -- off white, slightly embroidered saree with touches of gold, instead of a western look.

"She was wearing a saree and I think that's an appropriate outfit for any Indian diva walking an international platform. It was a nice off-white saree with a sexy blouse, making the look exude a good amount of glitz and glamour," designer Charu Parashar told IANS.

Designer Nida Mahmood said: "Deepika is a beautiful woman and was looking stunning in a saree. It's a very nice outfit that brings out the real form of a woman. It's sensual and elegant and if you can carry it well it makes you look awesome."

Deepika completed her look with a broad hand cuff, Kundan earrings and a stone encrusted clutch.

Rohit Bal, who designed Deepika's look for the event, had said: "As a designer, who has been observing fashion since the last 25 years, I think the only one super star this time at Cannes is going to be Deepika Padukone. There's nobody better than Deepika to break the rules and it's going to attract a lot of attention."

After her violet blue avatar the first day, Aishwarya opted to go black the next day.

She opted for a black off-shoulder, fish cut gown with neatly tied hair at the back and shocking red lip colour. While the gown was new, Aishwarya opted for the same round solitaires she wore the previous day.

On Day 3, Ash chose a magenta Gucci gown, flowing as opposed to her form-fitted look on Days 1 and 2.

Mallika, whose film 'Hisss' will be screened at the festival, stepped away from her bold image. She was dressed quite simply once in a white, self -printed, sleeve less, low neck dress, coupled with traditional Indian jewellery and a short and frilly beige number on Day 3.

So who's the Cannes Style Queen so far? Our vote goes to Aishwarya, and not because she had more red carpet appearances this year than Deepika and Mallika. Ash has just been consistently classy at Cannes 2010, and we like that.

Ranbir-Deepika's movie night

They were spotted watching 'Housefull' together, are they getting back?

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were open about their relationship while it lasted, and discreet after their break-up happened. Now, they've been seen together at a movie theatre in Mumbai watching her recently released 'Housefull', and we're wondering if they might be getting back together.

It seems Ranbir and Deepika sat next to each other as they caught 'Housefull' at a late night show in a multiplex on the weekend, and caused quite a buzz among audiences.

Just a few days ago Deepika had said that now she'd think twice about revealing private matters in public, like she had when she was seeing Ranbir. "We were young and in love and I didn't see anything wrong in being vocal about that. I thought being honest would work well but yes I'd think twice (about being so public) again," Deepika had said.

So has Deepika changed her mind about being public? Or was she just catching up with her ex? Are the two getting back together? We'll keep you posted!
