Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan wish Uddhav Thackeray

Shah Rukh Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment has placed an advertisement wishing Uddhav Thackeray the best on his birthday (July 27) in Saamna, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece.

Considering the war of words the two sides had in February, during the release of My Name Is Khan, the advertisement came as a surprise.

What is not clear is whether Shah Rukh authorised the advertisement or someone in the production house sent it without his knowledge. Incidentally, AB Corp placed an advertisement wishing Uddhav as well.

Big B reveals KBC logo

Amitabh Bachchan has given a peek into the new logo of the upcoming fourth season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati', which he is set to host. The logo also flaunts the new rupee symbol.

"Insisted Sony to incorporate the new rupee symbol in the KBC logo. They did. Looking so cool," Amitabh posted on his Twitter page.

The 67-year-old also uploaded a picture of the logo on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.

The centre of the round logo has six of the new Indian rupee symbols strategically placed to make it appear as a wheel.

The new symbol for the Indian rupee is an amalgam of the Devnagiri 'Ra' and the Roman capital 'R' without the stem.

Big B set to start rehearsals for KBC 4

Amitabh Bachchan says he will start rehearsing for 'Kaun Banega Crorepati 4' from tomorrow, July 16.

"Tomorrow (Friday) I start rehearsals for KBC... just getting the hang of things to come, the innovations and the formats. There is still time for its inception, but better to do it now and get acclimatized, than make mistakes later on," Big B posted on his blog.

Based on the British show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?', KBC created history when it was first launched on Star Plus in 2000 with Amitabh as the host. He returned with the second season in 2005, after which Shah Rukh Khan took over the baton in 2007.

Amitabh replaces SRK for KBC 4

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who made a successful comeback to showbiz through Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000, is back on the quiz reality show.

The mega star has replaced Shah Rukh Khan, who hosted the third season, for the fourth season of the show, which will now be telecast on Sony TV.

The 67-year-old said it is a great honour and pleasure to be associated with the show once again.

The format of KBC is known to everyone, he said.

Words like 'Computerji' and 'Lock Kiya Jaye' became part
of daily life and helped Bachchan to relaunch his career in Bollywood.

The actor also hosted the second season of the show on Star Plus but when he fell ill in 2006, the channel decided to move ahead with Shah Rukh.

Big B remembers Karan's dad

On Yash Johar's death anniversary, here's what the star said about him

Amitabh Bachchan remembers the late filmmaker Yash Johar on his sixth death anniversary as the "most dependable human ever".

The producer and founder of Dharma productions, passed away June 26, 2004 following a chest infection in Mumbai at the age of 74.

"Today is the death anniversary of Mr Yash Johar, father of Karan Johar and one of the finest gentlemen in the film industry. A dear friend of the family and the most dependable human ever," Amitabh wrote on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

Amitabh: The Making of a Superstar"No matter what the need was, he was always there, voluntarily without any obligation. Loved by all and respected for his fair conduct in an industry that often shied away from such attributes," he added.

"The first film that Johar produced under his banner was 'Dostana' with Zeenat Aman, Shatrughan Sinha and yours truly, directed by Raj Khosla. His next film with me was 'Agnipath'."

Remembering Johar as an ideal producer, Amitabh wrote: "His care and concern for the team, his efficient and systematic management system, during and after their association with the film and the personalized attention that he gave to his entire unit, are now legendary."

"Many of the production systems he introduced were ahead of their time, thoughtful and most professional. A soft spoken, gentle and concerned human, with the most subtle sense of humour, even in the most adverse circumstances. We remember you fondly Yash-ji and send our prayers to you through Hiroo (wife) and Karan (son). Our thoughts shall always be with you!" he added.

After reading the blog entry, Karan posted on his Twitter page, "Thank you so much amit uncle...just read the blog...truly means a lot..."

Big B unwell again

Who said Amitabh Bachchan ditched his press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday to announce his return to the Kaun Banega Crorepati hotseat because he wanted to spend time in London with his grandkids? Not true at all! All of Bollywood will tell you, if there is one artiste who is 100% professional, then it is the Big B. And the report that ‘Nanaji Bachchan’ cancelled his return (and, thereby the press conference, leaving the entertainment channel’s head honchos red faced) to entertain grandchildren Navya Naveli and Agastya over lunch and soccer in London, must have the Big B in a twitter.

And, who said earlier that Amitabh Bachchan had failed to attend the release of Gautam Rajadhyaksha’s book because he had gone into hiding in London and was licking the wounds his family had suffered from the savage mauling of Raavan? He was to be the chief guest, you remember, along with Lata Mangeshkar. Instead, Jaya Bachchan flew down from London for the book launch, and provided Gautam and Lataji an added show with Rekha!

Rumour is that the Big B is unwell. And he has been advised not to travel for a while. What is wrong with him, nobody knows, but going by past experiences... alarm bells start ringing in Bollywood even if Bachchan Sr comes down with the flu. So, the Bachchan parivar has flown down to be by his side. Abhishek and Aishwarya, postponing or cancelling all scheduled post-release publicity events for Raavan, and daughter Shweta and her children, have joined Paa and Ma in London.

Big B wants Aamir to direct him in a movie

Lately he has been interacting a lot with Bollywood perfectionist Aamir Khan and even convinced him to join Twitter. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan admits it would be nice to work with the talented actor, but there is no project in the pipeline yet.

Amitabh: The Making of a Superstar"Why would you assume that when two actors meet and have dinner together they would be doing a project together? Aamir was in the same hotel as me. He called, we met and went out for a meal. Just another social evening, nothing more," Big B, who recently dined with Aamir in London, said in an interview.

"Working with Aamir would be a joy, particularly if he were to direct the film," added the megastar who is unperturbed by the negative feedback of his son Abhishek's recently-released ‘Raavan’.

"People pay to go and see a film. If they do not like something, they have the liberty to criticise it... It's filmmaking. Happens the world over. One accepts the public verdict, learns from it and tries again," he said.

    Excerpts from an interview:

Q: You have started signing films after a long gap. Please describe the projects.
A: Yes, I had not signed a film for a while. There had been an accumulation of five films one after the other, due to the multiplex strike. All of them have released, barring one. I have signed up with Raj Kumar Santoshi. There are projects on the verge of finalisation with Pritish Nandy Communications, Prakash Jha, Puri Jagannath, Abbas Mustan and of course R. Balakrishnan.

Q: In London, you had dinner with Aamir Khan. Any projects with him?
A: Why would you assume that when two actors meet and have dinner together they would be doing a project together? Aamir was in the same hotel as me. He called, we met and went out for a meal. Just another social evening, nothing more. Though working with Aamir would be a joy, particularly if he were to direct the film.

Q: Any projects featuring you and Abhishek?
A: I hope there will be. There are talks in progress; when they are ready we can talk about it.

Q: Does the criticism Abhishek's solo films ‘Delhi 6’ and now ‘Raavan’ strike you as being unjust to him?
A: No not all. People pay to go and see a film. If they do not like something, they have the liberty to criticise it. I cannot understand why you particularly mention 'solo'. None of my successful films 'Deewar', 'Trishul', 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', 'Sholay', etc were solo. Abhishek too has had his share of solo successes and non-successes. Some work, some do not. It's filmmaking. Happens the world over. One accepts the public verdict, learns from it and tries again.

Q: I remember your emphatic support of ‘Guru’. Do you feel as strongly about ‘Raavan’?
A: Yes, but in different ways. ‘Guru’ was straight storytelling and Mani's brilliance in its presentation was very clear to observe. ‘Raavan’ is asking me to study and think and analyse and probe. It's taken a while to comprehend, so it is not immediate. It is driving me to intellectualise something that most viewers are not prepared for when they go to see a film...

Q: Ratnam and Abhishek have worked thrice together and it's about time you got a chance to work with him. Is a film with Mani round the corner?
A: I wish it was true, but there is no such offering. Could you put in a word for me?

Q: I can't help asking...you're tweeting and blogging. Do these means of communication make the press redundant for you?
A: How could you possibly ask this question at the end of this most exhaustive response of mine to the press! No, the media will never be redundant. Yes, I blog and tweet and Vog and soon shall also video blog, but the press shall always have its presence and importance. For me, these mediums are a wonderful opportunity to connect with my fans and well-wishers independently and instantly.
The internet is becoming a vast medium for the future. Most of the requests for interviews have also reduced because the media picks up all the daily news from our blogs and tweets. Look at the vast amount of information that these mediums provide on individuals you would perhaps have never had the opportunity to interact with. It should be allowed to grow and prosper, its use and misuse notwithstanding.

B.O. update: 'Raavan' has below the mark opening, reports disappointing

Raavan The much-anticipated RAAVAN did not fetch the desired start on Friday. While certain big city plexes opened to a 50% to 60% to 70% response, the response at smaller centre plexes and also single screens was much lower, in 20% to 25% to 30% range. Even in Mumbai, which contributes heavily from multiplexes, the occupancy was extremely erratic. In the recent past, films like HOUSE FULL, BADMAASH COMPANY, KITES and RAAJNEETI had opened to a terrific start and the industry was expecting a similar start for RAAVAN. But the reports of RAAVAN -- the audience feedback specifically -- is extremely mixed, tilting towards negative.

RAAVAN has had an extensive release in the Hindi version and therefore, the Friday numbers might be better due to this reason, but the fact remains that the opening day business is below expectations. Now let's see how Saturday and Sunday fares!

'Raavan' London Premiere - Photos

Who's hotter than Ash?

At the London premiere of 'Raavan, SRK says he had the 'hottest girls' with him

With Big B, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan at the ‘Raavan’ premiere in London, it was bound to be a starry affair (Check out the premiere pictures in our photo gallery).

Fans crowded the British Film Institute in Southbank to catch supposed rivals Big B and SRK together. So among all those big names, who really rocked the red carpet? According to SRK, his escorts at the premiere were the ‘hottest girls on the red carpet’. So was he talking about Aishwarya and wife Gauri? No, it was actually his daughter Suhana and her friends!

SRK posted their picture on his Twitter account and wrote, “Dressed for ‘Raavan’ premiere...had fun on the red carpet...also i had the best 3 girls as escorts. My escorts for the premier...the hottest girls at the red carpet - Suhana, Rysa, the littlest one, Ananya, Alia and me the hunk. My soccer team is also this with a few more players missing tonite.”

He then posted a picture of Gauri, and said, “This is how Gauri is post midnite. Cindrella after the pumpkins gone ha ha.”

Abhishek, after reading SRK’s posts, replied back, “Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for coming! Love you. And now waiting for you to come and fire me!”

And then SRK got talking to Abhi about meeting up again. “Had a great time. U all have worked so hard & good in the film. Was a great evening. R u also going to india..or do we have a party date sometime in london??? enjoy the film...u deserve to. lov to all"

Abhishek confirmed the meeting plans saying, “Yes, spoke to Gaurima. We now need to do a night back in Mumbai. Thank you again for coming. You made my night!”

And what else happened on the night? Well, the atmosphere was electric and the thumping of "dhols" mesmerising as the Bachchans, the first family of Bollywood, walked the red carpet.

"It's wonderful. Look at the reception we’ve got. We are feeling on top of the world and we are so happy that we came to London to premiere the film," said Abhishek, 34, who walked the red carpet hand-in-hand with Aishwarya.

Aishwarya, 36, added: "We love the fans here... They are out here appreciating our hard work... so it's time to say 'Thank you'."

Considered the biggest ever premiere for a Bollywood film in London, the event stopped the evening traffic near the venue as fans tried to catch a glimpse of the stars. Some even climbed up rooftops and cars to get a glimpse of their screen idols.

It had all the trappings of a Hollywood premiere, with the film's cast walking over a red carpet lined by fans on both sides.

Aishwarya, a well-known name in the international arena, was happy to see crowd cheering for her husband. "They are screaming out for Abhishek... I'm noticed. I'm happy," said the actress, who seemed to be enjoying every bit of her husband's company.

Abhishek, who plays the villainous Beera in 'Raavan', was looking dapper in a pink shirt, dotted tie and jet black tuxedo, while Aishwarya looked elegant in a subdued Sabyasachi Mukherjee sari teamed with a heavily embroidered full-sleeved blouse.

WATCH: Mani doesn't take me in his movies - Amitabh Bachchan

Big B returning to 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'?

What else is going to be different on the show?

If the grapevine is to be believed, Amitabh Bachchan is likely to return as the host of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'. Rumours had been floating around earlier that Aamir Khan might be joining the show, but now it seems Big B, the original host, will be back. After Big B, Shah Rukh Khan had also hosted the popular show. But many fans had long associated Big B's distinctive phrases and attitude with the show, and had wanted him back on it.

Now though it seems that KBC will be moving from Star Plus to Sony. Apparently, Star no longer has the license for the show, and Sony has taken over.

So, do you think Big B is really coming back to the show that started his domination of the small screen as well? We hope so, he did make a cool host. And we miss him after 'Bigg Boss 3'.

Big B's a hero to Canadian Tamils

His decision to skip IIFA cheered by them, Salman called 'a disgrace' for attending

The 300,000-strong Canadian Tamil community has hailed Amitabh Bachchan for not attending the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony in Colombo.

While labelling Bachchan as the "great ambassador for mankind", a community leader on June 6 hit out at other Bollywood actors, including Salman Khan, who took part in the three-day event, calling them a "disgrace" to India.

"Big B is really big. This name suits him, and he is our hero today. We Tamils salute him. By not going to Sri Lanka, Big B stands tall among Tamils around the world," said Canadian Tamil Congress national spokesman David Poopalapillai in Toronto.

"Tamils are proud of Big B, his family and all the Indian actors who refused to become hosts of Sri Lanka which has innocent Tamil blood on its hands. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts," the Tamil leader said.

"Bachchan has shown that he cares for us. He has shown to the world that he is a great ambassador for mankind and a great champion of human rights"

Poopalapillai said the Tamil diaspora would "suitably reciprocate" his gesture at appropriate time.

Hitting out at Bollywood actors who attended the awards function that ended early Sunday, the Tamil leader said: "By standing with those who have our blood on their hands, these stars have disgraced themselves. Sri Lanka held this ceremony on thousands of bodies of innocent Tamils. These actors have brought disgrace to India which believes in the Gandhian principle of respect for human rights."

He said the awards ceremony was a ploy by Sri Lanka to divert world attention from its "war crimes".

Taking a dig at Salman Khan who has criticised Amitabh Bachchan for not attending the extravaganza, Poopalapillai said, "Who is this Salman Khan? He stands nowhere near Big B. So how can people like him criticise Mr Bachchan?"

South Indian film personalities such as Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam boycotted the 11th edition of IIFA Awards.

Criminal case to be registered against Big B

    How is Aishwarya involved?

A woman village-head in Uttar Pradesh in India has sought a local court's intervention to get a criminal case registered against Amitabh Bachchan in Barabanki district, where the megastar has bought land to build a women's college.

Complainant Raj Kumari is the 'gram pradhan' (village head) of Daulatpur village, where the mega star had acquired five bighas of land to build a college in the name of his star daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.

In an application moved before the court of chief judicial magistrate, Barabanki, Raj Kumari has accused Bachchan of "playing fraud" on the people of the village by not keeping his word of building a women's college.

She has further charged Bachchan of threatening her with dire consequences when she approached him to honour his commitment to the local population.

The court has fixed May 31 for hearing the case.

Earlier, Bachchan has faced charges of acquiring 2.5 bighas of agricultural land owned by the local 'gram sabha' allotted in his name through "fraudulent means".

Subsequently, he purchased three bighas of private land. Together with his close friend, former Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, he travelled all the way to Daulatpur village in 2006 along with his wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya. And amidst much fanfare, he declared that the college would be named after Aishwarya.

However, there was no activity on the plot in all these years, following which the village head moved the court.

SRK-Amitabh play hide n seek on Twitter?

The Shehenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan just made his foray into the Twitter land and in less than two days time has already gathered about 44,000 followers!

In no time the legendary actor is bound to make it in the list of the top Indian celebs to have maximum number of followers on Twitter for sure, along with the likes of King Khan – Shah Rukh and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

Fans of both Shah Rukh and Amitabh are although waiting for that iconic moment when the two will interact on Twitter and for the first time the aam junta could get to be a part of their conversation!

Where Amitabh chose to say a hello to his son Abhishek and Sachin Tendulkar the moment he entered Twitter, SRK is continuing to give his usual family and work updates on the site without much on Big B when the rest of the Bollywood is busy welcoming the senior actor. The two are yet to interact, not that Twitter is the only medium for them to but the alleged past rumours of a rift between the two is what is building up our curiosity.

SRK’s frequent tweets to Abhishek too are making us wonder what’s keeping the king from pinging the shehenshah and vice versa...

Shah Rukh’s close friend Karan Johar too has welcomed Big B and so has the entire Bollywood fraternity barring Salman Khan who is although comparatively newer to Twitter than SRK. Abhishek too has stayed away from following Salman on the site.
