Says Sajid, "Apart from Priyanka and Ranbir being a fresh combination, it's the first pure, young, cool love story from my banner, Nadiadwala Grandsons and Siddharth is the right director for the job. He is very focused and works 18 hours only on the film."

Siddharth adds, "The thought behind Anjaana Anjaani is that all great love stories start out as people meeting as strangers before they fall in love with each other.

The story has been written by Siddharth's wife Mamta. He says, "Novelist Advaita Kala has written the screenplay. AA is more than just a love story. The two strangers -- Ranbir and Priyanka -- represent every emotion in us. It's a story of us. The beginning spurs the entire film."

Ranbir rocks Delhi nightspot

The unit of Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar finally wrapped up their shooting schedule in Delhi on Monday. The shooting of the movie, which went on for almost three weeks at various locations in the NCR, concluded at the F Bar and Lounge in Chanakyapuri.

The unit of the movie walked into the bar sharp at 9 on Monday morning. The unit vans were parked inside the hotel, next to the nightclub Capitol. There was much hustle and bustle at the location – spotboys holding lights rushed around inside the venue, packed food and mineral water was stocked in one corner, and one guy was busy ironing clothes for the extras.

Soon, Ranbir Kapoor, the film’s lead, arrived and got out of his white van, while Imtiaz came in a blue van. One of the spotboys, who was serving tea to the unit members, happily walked up to us and offered us a cup of tea too. He smiled and said, “There are more than 100 people who have come down from Mumbai for the shooting. Today is the last day. It’s been a very hectic schedule, Delhi mein bahut garmi thi ... hum sab Mumbai ki baarish miss kar rahe the. The Delhi shoot will resume in the last week of October. After that, there are also plans to shoot in Manali and Jaipur.”

Security arrangements at the bar were quite stringent. Four private bodyguards dressed in safari suits, headphones in hand, were stationed at the entrance of the bar. Inside, there were more than 80 crew members, all busy running around. At around 11.30am, Ranbir walked onto the sets and got ready for the first shot.

Dressed in a black tee and denims, he adjusted his hairdo and got his touch-ups done by his make-up artiste Inder. The shot, a song sequence featuring Ranbir and some firangs, was of the dance floor inside the venue. A miniature bar (a replica of the real bar there) had been created in one corner.

Ranbir took a break for lunch and returned to the sets around 4pm. By this time, his fans had gathered outside the lobby, waiting to catch a glimpse of the star. As Ranbir passed the lobby on his way to the venue, a group of young girls screamed and shouted out to him, but he rushed past.

According to F Bar officials, “Security had been heightened since morning. Luckily, we didn’t have to get extra security as Imtiaz had already got his own security boys along with him. The team had hardly any time to eat anything; they would munch some snacks during the breaks. The owner of the bar, Rajan Madhu, came with his wife Ala and three kids in the afternoon to watch the shoot.”

The shoot ended at around 6.30pm,and Ranbir rushed towards his van escorted by his bodyguard and make-up artiste. This time, he was wearing a white bandanna, and a golden shirt peeped out from the black one on top. When he emerged from his van, he’d changed into a checked blue shirt with denims and a cap. At the end of the day, Ranbir decided to be sweet and obliged his fans with autographs and photographs.

SRK-Ranbir: Strings attached

Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor — both of who love their friend filmmaker Karan Johar to distraction — have another common link these days. Both actors are bound by the guitar strings.

SRK, too, has tried his hand at strumming the guitar when he was on a holiday in Spain. Ranbir who is taking guitar lessons for his role in Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, apparently, impressed friends and family with his rendition of Ek haseena thi (from Karz where his father Rishi Kapoor played the lead). The makers of Rockstar are said to have postponed the shooting by almost a month because Imtiaz — of the long locks fame — wants his hero Ranbir’s hair to grow long.

WATCH: Priyanka attends Ranbir's party!

Ranbir Kapoor throws his first lavish party

It looks like childhood friend and director Siddharth Anand can make Ranbir Kapoor do things which no one else can. He made Ranbir throw a party and that too at his bungalow in Pali Hill where not many guests are allowed.

Ranbir hosted a wrap-up party for the cast and crew of his new film 'Anjaana-Anjaani' where everyone, including co-star Priyanka Chopra and American actors flown into Mumbai to shoot a club song, had a blast.

One of the guests said: "Ranbir's mom had looked into every detail. The food was Punjabi, homecooked and yummy. Ranbir's dad Rishi Kapoor had crashed by the time the party started.

"Chintu uncle's sleeping habits are invariable. Even when he has his own dinner guests at home, he starts getting restless after 9.30 p.m. and begins to switch off lights and air conditioners as hints for the guests to leave. We expected him to wake up from all the noise we made and come up any moment to switch off the music."

'Anjaana Anjaani' producer Sajid Nadiadwala could not make it to the party as he's holidaying in Europe.

The source said: "It didn't make sense to wait for Sajid to return. A wrap-up party has to happen immediately after the last day of shooting or not at all."

When asked how Ranbir, known to be anti-party, was persuaded to host a party in his home, Siddharth said: "Oh, I think I can make Ranbir do things no one else can. While we were shooting for 'Anjaana Anjaani' in the US, I made him gift me an expensive watch. Ranbir, my wife and I are teetotalers and full-on foodies. We went through as many restaurants in the US as possible."

"The wrap-up party would have been Ranbir's second party. I had persuaded him to host one after the completion of our first movie together 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'. But we got late completing the last shots of the title song in 'Bachna...', so all the food was sent by Neetu aunty to Yashraj Studios.

"This time we made it to Ranbir's home after the song. And yes, it was Ranbir's first party. We had a blast," Siddharth said.

Ranbir plays peacemaker for 'Raajneeti' team

He's ended the cold war between Nana Patekar and Prakash Jha

Ranbir Kapoor, who was seen as a scheming politician in 'Raajneeti', brought Prakash Jha and Nana Patekar together after their public fallout.

Apparently Ranbir, who got along like a house on fire with Nana during the shooting of 'Raajneeti' in Bhopal, didn't relish the uneasy silence between the two veterans. He decided to end the cold war between them when on an impulse, he dialed Nana's number from Kong Kong where he had gone with Jha for a 'Raajneeti' event.

When Nana answered the phone, Ranbir quickly handed it over to Jha.

Confirming that the cold war between him and Nana is over, Jha said: "We are once again connected. Nana is delighted by the success of 'Raajneeti' and is keeping tabs on the film's progress. He didn't come for the 'Raajneeti' celebration. But he called to say he wouldn't come because he never attends functions."

And now Nana is in constant touch enjoying the success of 'Raajneeti'.

'Raajneeti' hits jackpot at the box office

With 95 per cent occupancy in theatres, the movie's had a great opening weekend

Multiple controversies notwithstanding, Prakash Jha's much-awaited and much-hyped dark political thriller 'Raajneeti' has set the cash registers ringing - courtesy its widely-appreciated content.

"'Raajneeti' (released Friday) is a super-duper hit. The movie is being massively appreciated and will have a definite second weekend run. We have had an average occupancy of close to 95 percent for 26 shows per day and we sold off 4,200 tickets in advance till Sunday," Amit Awasthi, senior manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas, said.

"We have collected a gross of Rs.28 lakh and all shows are full on Sunday (June 6)," he added.

Amit Shah, chief manager (programming) of DLF DT cinemas, echoed the view.

"'Raajneeti' is a must-watch film. The content of the movie is being highly appreciated and it is moving towards being the highest grosser over the weekend for this year till now," Shah said.

"We've had an average occupancy of close to 90 percent and we are running around 15-17 shows in prime properties and around 9-12 shows in other properties. The movie will bring a good second weekend," he added.

Produced by UTV with around Rs.45 crore, the movie has been distributed by Prakash Jha Productions, Walkwater Media and UTV Motion Pictures with over 2,100 prints worldwide.

Inspired by the Hindu epic Mahabharata, 'Raajneeti' takes a behind-the-scenes look at the working of Indian politics and features an ensemble line-up, including the likes of Nana Patekar and Naseeruddin Shah, Ajay Devgn and Manoj Bajpai.

Heartthrobs Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, along with model-turned-actor Arjun Rampal, also play pivotal roles in the movie.

The film was in trouble when it was first denied a certificate by the censor board for Katrina's character reportedly having a resemblance to Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Jha, however, dismissed the allegation saying that the movie is actually a modern re-telling of the Mahabharata.

Some intimate scenes and excessive violence sequences were also removed before the movie was given a U/A censor certificate.

"We've had a very good response till now and most of the shows have been running housefull with an average occupancy of close to 85 percent over the weekend. Everyone has liked the movie and the storyline is pretty strong. Word of mouth publicity is very good," said Jayendra Banerji, vice president (operations) of Satyam Cineplexes.

Deepak Taluja, senior vice president (business and operations) of Fun Cinemas, added: "The movie is going very well and almost all the shows have been housefull with an occupancy of close to 80-90 percent. People are really praising the movie and we are hopeful that this one will have maximum shows in the second week too."

Fun Cinemas is running 11 and 13 shows of 'Raajneeti' for all three and four screen properties respectively.

More trouble for 'Rajneeti'

Legal notices filed against Katrina-Ranbir starrer, will its release be delayed?

The problems for 'Raajneeti' seem to be getting more pronounced. First, a city-based social worker filed a petition in court against the film and now actor and self-styled star Kamaal R. Khan has sent a legal notice to director Prakash Jha claiming copyright over the film's title.

Social worker Naseem Khan had filed a petition in court on May 14 asking for the film's release to be stopped because one of the central characters apparently resembles Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Now, Kamaal R. Khan, or KRK as he likes to be called, has sent Jha a legal notice.

When contacted, Jha admitted that Kamaal, known to generate publicity for himself through various controversies, has sent a legal notice claiming copyright.

"But my lawyers are looking into it. There's absolutely nothing in this claim. We shouldn't give any importance to people who jump into the picture at the time of release for whatever reasons. Look at the way Rakesh Roshan is being harassed over 'Kites' by some person claiming to be entitled to crores of rupees," Jha maintained.

"Earlier, we had someone making claims over Ram Gopal Varma's 'Rakta Charitra' days before release. This is not done!"

Speaking on Naseem Khan's claims that 'Raajneeti' casts aspersions on one of the most prominent politicians of the country, Jha said: "Let all these self-styled supporters of Soniaji come forward to show their loyalty. Am I an irresponsible citizen and filmmaker who would do something so foolish as to portray Soniaji in a bad light?"

"No one has seen a frame of 'Raajneeti'. How does anyone presume that Katrina's character has any resemblance to Soniaji? Have I said it anywhere? Has Katrina said it anywhere? Let Soniaji watch 'Raajneeti' and decide."

About an out-of-court settlement with Naseem Khan, Jha said: "Over my dead body. I'd burn the prints of my film rather than give in to such blackmail. No out-of-court settlement for me. I've seen enough legal obstacles in my life. This is nothing."

Ranbir-Deepika's movie night

They were spotted watching 'Housefull' together, are they getting back?

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were open about their relationship while it lasted, and discreet after their break-up happened. Now, they've been seen together at a movie theatre in Mumbai watching her recently released 'Housefull', and we're wondering if they might be getting back together.

It seems Ranbir and Deepika sat next to each other as they caught 'Housefull' at a late night show in a multiplex on the weekend, and caused quite a buzz among audiences.

Just a few days ago Deepika had said that now she'd think twice about revealing private matters in public, like she had when she was seeing Ranbir. "We were young and in love and I didn't see anything wrong in being vocal about that. I thought being honest would work well but yes I'd think twice (about being so public) again," Deepika had said.

So has Deepika changed her mind about being public? Or was she just catching up with her ex? Are the two getting back together? We'll keep you posted!

Ranbir, the green-eyed star

Why is he jealous of Arjun Rampal’s wife, Mehr?

After working with model-turned-National Award winner Arjun Rampal in ‘Raajneeti’, Ranbir Kapoor considers him a "brother for life" and says he loves him so much that he feels extremely jealous of Arjun's wife.

"I have had a wonderful time working with Arjun in 'Raajneeti'. He is my brother for life. I love him a lot. In fact I love him so much, so much that I am jealous that Mehr is his wife," Ranbir said while addressing a press conference at the Galaxy Hotel in Gurgaon.

The two actors were in a fun mood as they stood up and started clapping as soon as their co-actor Katrina Kaif stepped on to the stage. They even banged the table instead of clapping later, and Ranbir kept dropping the cap of a plastic water bottle placed on the dais.

Even Arjun went out of his way to confess his feelings for Ranbir as well as the other cast and crew members of 'Raajneeti', directed by critically acclaimed Prakash Jha.

"I have found a good friend in Prakash, guide in Nana (Patekar) sir, enemy in Manoj (Bajpai), a younger brother in Ranbir and Katrina has been a wonderful person who lets me pull her leg," Arjun said.

Ranbir Kapoor all set to direct

Actor Ranbir Kapoor is snapping up film offers and endorsements by the dozens at the moment. But the actor is planning to take some time off at the end of this year to go behind the camera and direct a film.

“When he decided he wanted to join Bollywood, his plans were to revive the RK banner and direct films. And that’s why he decided to assist Sanjay Leela Bhansali. However, when acting offers came his way, he took them on. However, all those in his inner circle always knew that it was a matter of time before Ranbir would direct. That’s something he is extremely passionate about,” says a friend of the actor.

Sources close to the star tell us that while Ranbir has been busy wrapping up his movies, he has also been hearing various scripts.

“He is very keen to take the RK banner back to where it was during his grandfather’s days. He is looking at directing a feel-good family movie… Something that would make the late Raj Kapoor very proud. His parents, especially his father, are helping him every step of the way. He has a lot of encouragement from both his uncles too for reviving the RK banner,” says the friend.

At the moment, Ranbir Kapoor has his kitty filled with big directors and banners casting him as the lead, with almost every leading actress ready to act opposite him. However, Kapoor is quite keen to go back to his original plan of directing.

“It’s not a case of choosing one over the other. I would like to revive the RK banner. And it won’t be easy. But I plan to work as hard on doing that as I do on my acting,” says Kapoor earnestly.

And it is keeping his directing plans in mind that Ranbir hasn’t signed on a spate of films. Almost through with Ananjani Anjaani with Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir only has Anurag Basu’s Khamoshi on hand.

B.O. update: 'Rocket Singh' opens to shockingly low response

Everyone was expecting ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR to start with a bang, given the fact that Ranbir Kapoor's last two films, WAKE UP SID and AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, had fetched a flying start. Also, the fact that Aditya Chopra, Shimit Amin and Jaideep Sahni had teamed up with Ranbir, only raised the expectations from the film. But the poor start of ROCKET SINGH sent shock waves within the industry. The film had a 20% to 40% start at certain plexes and at places, 10% to 15% start.

The reports are extremely mixed and it remains to be seen if the film picks up on Saturday and Sunday, like Yash Raj's previous two biggies, CHAK DE INDIA and RAB NE BANA DI JODI.

Rocket Singh - Salesman Of The Year - Movie Review

Some films absorb you instantly, from the very outset. But it takes time to get into the world of a salesman who thinks from his heart.

Come to think of it, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is about a simpleton, but the story of his struggle and accomplishment isn't the kind that would charge you or make you charter a similar path in life. Also, the story of an underdog who comes up the hard way should make you feel euphoric in the end, right? But ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR doesn't.

Frankly, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. It's a decent film, no two opinions on that, but the question is, [a] Is the story powerful enough to excite you and [b] Does it grab your attention in entirety? Sadly, the answer to both the questions is in the negative.

There's another problem and this is strictly from the point of those seeking entertainment. A Yash Raj film with Ranbir Kapoor [after AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI] essaying the title role, coupled with fun-filled promos ['Pocket Mein Rocket Hain'] might make you assume that it would offer loads of entertainment, but this has barely a song or two, as good as no romance and hardly any comic moments - the recipe for most Hindi movies.

In a nutshell, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is a dull and dry experience.

Harpreet Singh Bedi [Ranbir Kapoor] has just graduated and his marks are, well, let's say a little embarrassing. But marks never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will.

He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career. It's everything he dreamt of, with its smooth dressing, smoother talking men and women who can sell ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac and a lifetime mobile connection to a dying man. But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these 'professionals' and 'bosses' he looked up to.

ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR may be based on a simpleton's life, but the viewer gets a hang of things only towards the second hour. The entire first hour is devoted to establishing the characters and also getting used to the way sales persons go about their business.

There's not much excitement in the first hour, barring a few attention-grabbing scenes that pop up intermittently. The story just flows, with the viewer not reacting much to the proceedings. But things change for better towards the post-interval portions when the protagonist and his colleagues' lives get complicated.

At least two sequences deserve a mention here. The first, when Ranbir and his boss have a lengthy telephonic conversation. The second, when the boss realises his folly and apologises to Ranbir. But, unfortunately, the culmination to the story doesn't give the feeling of euphoria or victory. Ideally speaking, it should have. That's one of the reasons why the impact is missing.

Shimit Amin is an efficient storyteller and he has been most faithful to the plot, but if the plot itself has its limitations, there's not much he can do to boost the proceedings. Jaideep Sahni has had the courage to narrate a new story, but the story is one-dimensional. Also, there screenplay is devoid of songs, romance and entertainment, which will go against the film completely.

Salim-Sulaiman's background score is effectual. Vikash Nowlakha's cinematography is alright.

Ranbir Kapoor is an exceptional actor and ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR mirrors this fact. The actor underplays his part beautifully, which only goes to prove that he's equally at ease essaying straight-out-of-life roles. Prem Chopra is exceptional. A number of new faces enact pivotal roles here, but the ones who stand out are Ranbir's boss Puri and colleague Nitin. Both are fantastic.

    D. Santosh is first-rate. Gauhar Khan leaves a strong impression. Shazahn Padamsee doesn't get any scope.

On the whole, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. Lack of music, romance and entertainment, coupled with zilch hype, will go against the film. A colossal disappointment!
