Sushmita spotted with out her usual bling

WATCH: "I Am SHE" 2010 (PROMO)

That's Sushmita's new baby!

The star brought three-month-old Alisah along to an event in Mumbai

Sushmita Sen became a proud mommy for the second time recently when she adopted Alisah. And we got our first look at the baby when the star brought her along for the crowning of the winners of the 'I Am Princess' initiative. Sush was at the Bal Bhavan charity for the event, and she showed off Alisah to everyone there. She even handed Alisah over to the kids at the charity so they could play with the baby.

Alisah's already a cutie at three months, and she looks like she loves the camera. Just look at the way she's totally unfazed and at home before the camera, must get it from her mom!

Sushmita already has another daughter, Renee, who was adopted in the year 2000. And now with Alisah, Sush's family portrait makes for an even more adorable picture.

Are Wasim Akram and Sushmita Sen a couple?

They've been out together in Mumbai a few times now

Is there a new Indo-Pak celeb love story on the cards? Rumours linking actress Sushmita Sen and former cricketer Wasim Akram have been flying around for a while now. Apparently, the two first met when they were hosts of a reality TV show some years ago. At the time, Wasim was happily married to Huma (who passed away last year).

It's only recently that Sushmita and Wasim have been spotted together in public. First they were seen at model Candice Pinto's birthday party, were they seemd to be having a lot of fun in each other's company. Wasim even put his face in a cut-out with a buffed body, to laughs from Sush.

Now, the couple have been seen together again. A few days ago, the two entered a popular club in Mumbai, and laughed and talked together until the place shut down at night. Mid-way through the evening, a few of Sushmita's friends joined the couple.

We'll be looking out for the two to see how their friendship progresses, and keep you posted on it.

Sushmita returns to Miss Universe

She’ll pick the Indian representative for the beauty contest in 2010

Former beauty queen-turned actress Sushmita Sen has taken up the task of selecting the Miss Universe 2010 representative from India through the ‘I AM She’ contest and she has tied up with an FM station for it. Sushmita herself won the Miss Universe crown in 1994. And now she has bought the franchise for selecting the Miss Universe India, which was earlier with the Times of India Group.

Sushmita said that through the contest they would select the next Miss Universe India, who will represent India at the global Miss Universe competition.

"'I AM She' will be the preliminary of the Miss Universe contest," Sushmita told reporters at the 92.7 BIG FM studio in Mumbai today (April 6).

Talking about her association with BIF FM, she said: "BIG FM is an important partner of 'I AM She'. They have the resources to reach across to people."

Sushmita feels that the ‘I AM She’ winner would be ensured of a better future.

"I believe that the winners of this contest would not only get glamorous prizes but they will also be awarded with scholarships," said Sushmita.

"It's (the Miss Universe title) definitely going to come back again. India has the most beautiful women in the world. The fact is we are beautiful inside-out and the whole world agrees to it," Sushmita said.

Dulha Mil Gaya - Movie Review

The recipe is simple and uncomplicated...
    Take MY FAIR LADY.
Add DULHAN WAHI JO PIYA MAN BHAAYE.
    Spray NASEEB APNA APNA.
Sprinkle DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE and RAB NE BANA DI JODI.
Hey presto, DULHA MIL GAYA is ready to serve.

In fact, MY FAIR LADY has been a hot favourite of Bollywood. Recall MAN PASAND [Dev Anand, Tina Munim] or HUM TERE AASHIQ HAIN [Jeetendra, Hema Malini]. Similarly, a number of storytellers have rehashed Rajshri's all-time hit DULHAN WAHI JO PIYA MAN BHAAYE [Prem Krishen, Rameshwari] in various avtaars, over the years.

DULHA MIL GAYA is a mix of the above-named films. Like they say in filmi lingo, it's old wine in new bottle. So what? How different can a love story be, since this genre has been done to death in Bollywood? Point noted, but the narrative ought to be engaging if it has to strike a chord and that's where DULHA MIL GAYA falters.

Merely assembling A-listers and filming the movie at panoramic locations isn't enough. The film ought to have meat and that's missing here.

Let me elaborate. Debutante director Mudassar Aziz, who has also penned the script, borrows from the past, going for the tried-and-tested stuff, but the narrative, already low on fuel, comes to a grinding halt by the time it reaches its finale.

Donsai [Fardeen Khan], a young commitment-phobic debonair, is petrified with terms like marriage and long-term relationships. Samarpreet [Ishita Sharma] is a quintessential Punjabi girl, for whom relationships are to be cherished.

Shimmer [Sushmita Sen] is a diva from the world of glamour for whom love and relationships aren't important in life as independence and success are. Pawan Raj Gandhi/PRG [Shah Rukh Khan] is a suave multi-millionaire whose heart still remains larger than his bank balance and for whom winning love is the only victory there is.

When paths cross for these four characters, they not only land up influencing each other with their outlook on relationships, but also get influenced themselves and learn a whole new meaning of the term.

Something that got ignited with D.D.L.J. continues to shimmer to this date. Our stories continue to travel from firangi land to the fields of Punjab. DULHA MIL GAYA too does that [initially], before MY FAIR LADY and RAB NE BANA DI JODI take over.

To give the credit where it's due, DULHA MIL GAYA has some interesting moments, but the problem is they are few and far between. One expects things to perk up when SRK's character is introduced [in the post-interval portions], but your hopes go crashing as nothing worthy of note occurs.

The writing has gaping flaws, which are difficult to absorb after a point. The girl travels all the way from Punjab to Trinidad and Tobago, but not once do her concerned parents call to enquire how she is. Strangely, even the girl doesn't feel the need to inform them. If that's not enough, Sushmita takes upon herself to tame Fardeen, giving you the impression that she thinks from her heart. But when it comes to her relationship with Shah Rukh, she behaves in a rather odd manner. SRK, on the other hand, seems completely besotted by her, even though she never reciprocates his feelings. Hence, her somersault in the end - just because Ishita has given her some bhashan - doesn't look convincing.

Mudassar Aziz's direction is a shade better than his writing. And that's not saying much. Given the fact that newer stories are being attempted in these fast-changing times and in view of the fact that he had some of the best talents on board, Mudassar should've seized the opportunity and told a refreshingly different and absorbing tale. But he doesn't. Sure, a few sequences are clever and smart, but that's not enough.

The music is of a mixed variety. 'Akela Dil' is groovy, while the title track is strictly okay. Cinematography is appealing.

Sushmita excels in a role that demands her to be hoity-toity. She enacts her part effortlessly. One wishes to see her more often on the big screen! Fardeen does a good job, especially towards the end when he's about to confess something vital to Ishita. Ishita delivers a sincere performance. It's a pity that a superstar like Shah Rukh is terribly wasted in an inconsequential role. It may not go down well with his fans.

Mohit Chadha has screen presence, but gets no scope. Johny Lever is wasted. Ditto for Tara Sharma. Suchitra Pillai and Howard Rosemeyer are passable. Parikshit Sahni, Bina Kak and Viveck Vaswani are as usual.

On the whole, DULHA MIL GAYA doesn't work!

Sushmita to groom Indian beauties for Miss Universe

Her company launches I Am She platform

Sushmita Sen is all set to launch her modeling academy I Am She, which will nurture young models. The winner of the I Am She beauty pageant will go on to represent India in the Miss Universe contest.

Sushmita, who is the first Indian to be crowned Miss Universe, has bought the rights to groom the girls for the pageant.

The ‘I Am She’ Platform is part of Sushmita Sen’s Tantra Entertainment, which was awarded the India franchisee to select “Miss Universe” participant by the Miss Universe Organisation.

I Am She pageant will take over from the Femina Miss India as a pre-curser to the Miss Universe contest.

On the philosophy of the platform, Sushmita said that it was about being comfortable with one’s self. “Though not a perfect human being, I like myself as I am. We are already who we are. Even if we try to live the life of others, we cannot escape ourselves. We need to be strong and confident, especially when things are not going our way,” she said.

What is keeping Sushmita Sen busy?

She insists her schedule is packed

She had no release in 2008 and this year she featured in two duds -- "Karma, Confessions and Holi" and "Do Knot Disturb", but beauty queen-turned-actress Sushmita Sen insists her absence from the limelight has been due to her busy schedule courtesy her ventures.

"I am basically a very busy person. I am just the sort of person who is constantly delving into different things and wetting my palms to see what all interests me and I have been mostly outside the country shooting for my films," said Sushmita.

"I have also been keeping busy with the dubs and promotion of my films. I have also been working around my other companies so that I could have a very fulfilling year," she added.

Her future film projects include "Dulha Mil Gaya" and "No Problem".
