Hrithik stopped smoking

Hrithik, Priyanka back with Agneepath

After sizzling on screen in the super hit Krrish, one will once again see the couple Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan in the remake of Agneepath, directed by debutant Karan Malhotra.

The movie is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Production and has Hrithik in the lead playing Vijay Dinanath Chavan. A source reveals, “Priyanka has been taken onboard to play the lead role played by Madhavi in the earlier film. Karan finds Priyanka apt for the role and approached her with the script. Priyanka said yes in a blink and is playing the lead opposite Hrithik.”

The source continues, “Priyanka and Hrithik will be coming together onscreen after almost five years. While Hrithik will be playing Amitabh Bachchan’s role, Priyanka will be essaying his nurse- girlfriend role, played by Madhavi in the original. Both complement each other on screen.”

The original was produced by Yash Johar. “Little minor changes will be made in the script, making it modern, keeping the plot more or less the same. However, the dialogue will be the same, penned by Kader Khan. The character played by Mithun Chakraborty has been totally done away with in the remake,” adds a source.

Despite repeated attempts, Priyanka remained unavailable for comment. Karan Malhotra did not comment either.

Khans, Roshans bonding continues

The Gauri Khan-Sussanne Roshan bonding continues. And this time they were actually bonding at London’s Old Bond Street.

These two superstar wives were dressed in their designer best, and each of them was carrying enough bags to break a donkey’s back. Unfortunately there are no mules in London, so Gauri and Sussanne were lugging their own plastic sacks laden with the most expensive stuff that the London stores stock.

Hrithik, who is wrapping up his shoot in Spain, is expected to join Sussanne, Gauri and Shah Rukh in London any day now. The Khans and the Roshans are expected to party hard. This is the lifestyle of Bollywood’s rich and famous.

'Krissh' is ready for a comeback

Rakesh Roshan will direct Hrithik in the superhero sequel

After 'Kites' flopped, it looks like the Roshans are returning to their comfort zone. No more stories with foreign languages, instead it's a return to desi roots. So Rakesh Roshan will be directing son Hrithik is 'Krissh 2', the third in their series that started with 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Krissh'.

It seems papa Roshan doesn't want to take any chances after the 'Kites' debacle, and has chosen to handle the new movie himself. Apparently, work on the script has already begun, and Roshan Sr wants to make this movie bigger and better, along the lines of Hollywood sequels.

Hrithik's set to be waxed

He'll be getting his statue at Madame Tussauds soon, joining SRK and Big B

Hrithik Roshan is the next Bollywood celebrity to have his wax statue installed in the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum in London.

After Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik has reserved a spot for himself at the famous museum.

Hrithik's statue will be installed in early 2011.

"We began our association with the world-famous Madame Tussauds museum in 2000 when at the inaugural International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in 2000 at the Millennium Dome, Amitabh Bachchan was announced as the first ever Indian film star to be honoured in wax," Andre Timmins, one of the directors of Wizcraft, said.

"Then followed a string of select Indian stars and we are very pleased that Hrithik Roshan now joins this esteemed waxed league, within a decade of entering the film industry."

Getting saucy in Spain: Hrithik, Farhan go shirtless

Here's a first look at the cast of Zoya Akhtar's film in Spain

Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin are in Spain shooting Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The cast is filming most of the scenes in and around Madrid.

A few fans got a chance to get up close and personal with the actors and take pictures with them while they were shooting.

Recently the actors shot a scene depicting them having a mock fight with tomatoes on the streets of Spain. The scene is inspired by the annual La Tomatina event in Bunol near Valencia.

The highlight of the festival is the tomato fight which takes place between 11am and 1pm on that day. The event has become one of the highlights on Spain's summer festival calendar with thousands of people flocking to this little Valencian town.

Both Katrina and Hrithik were drenched in tomato pulp and had a great time shooting the scene. With Sussanne Roshan joining the team, the cast keeps themselves busy indulging in adventure sports and playing board games.

CCTVs to monitor Hrithik's household staff

Rakesh Roshan has installed nine close-circuit television cameras in the three floors of his house inorder to ensure the safety of his family. And the senior Roshan personally monitors the footage from each of the cameras. This way, he can keep a tab on the comings and goings in his house. The cameras are aimed at the entrances to the house and in the kitchen. Apparently, he had ordered the cameras a long time ago, but has installed them only recently.

Hrithik Roshan to star in 'Agneepath' remake

Anyone would think that Abhishek Bachchan would be the natural choice to play Amitabh Bachchan's role in a 'Agneepath' remake. However, Hrithik Roshan has been roped in to play the part in the new-age 'Agneepath', while Mithun Chakraborty's award winning character has been completely done away with.

"When the idea of re-making 'Agneepath' came to producer Karan Johar, he right away locked in on Hrithik Roshan. It was a commitment to the actor, who is very keen to give his own interpretation to the character," a source revealed.

In fact, it was presumed by a very large section of the entertainment industry that Abhishek would play the eponymous part of Vijay Dinanath Chauvan. And Jaya Bachchan would play Vijay's mother, played with brilliant poignancy by Rohini Hattangadi in the cult orignal directed by the late Mukul Anand.

However, contrary to popular opinion, Abhishek was never offered the role in the remake.

"Hrithik will play it closer to Al Pacino in 'Scarface' than Mr. Bachchan in 'Agneepath'," says a source.

'Agneepath', it would be recalled, was deeply influenced by 'Scarface'. The remake, written and directed by debutant Karan Malhotra purports to pay homage to 'Scarface'.

While refusing to discuss the cast, producer Karan Johar says: "All I can say is that my 'Agneepath' is radically different from the 'Agneepath' that my (late) father (Yash Johar) produced. We've completely done away with the south Indian character played by Mithun Chakraborty in the original."

With that information, Mithun's dreams of seeing his son Mimoh cast on the role he originally played also goes up in flames.

Karan Johar's 'Agneepath' would be a solo act featuring Roshan Jr, who will experiment with the rasping dialogue-delivery that Big B had attempted in the original 1990's gangster film.

Many thought that it was his gravelly way of speaking in 'Agneepath' that made the movie a hit. But, Hrithik is determined to prove all the self-appointed soothsayers wrong.

"My father was very proud of Agneepath. I hope I don't let him down with my version of the film. Amit-ji had won the National award for it, it's a tough act to follow for any actor," Karan says.

Hrithik and Jackky are connected

Hey hey……don’t poke your ‘dostana’ nose here…… baby, we are serious...

The laadla of producer no.1 Vashu Bhagnani and the wannabe dulaara of Bollywood Jackky was a rolly polly prospect for any cake or pastry shop during ‘Biwi No.1’ days. The kid never had the dreams of becoming an actor up until he took up dance as a serious form of fitness thanks to his inspiration from Hrithik Roshan. The actor who was very overweight through his teens lost a whopping 60 kgs after Hrithik Roshan hit the scene with his debut ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’.

Jackky is a gifted dancer and the wannabe gives the credit to his inspiration to Bollywood most attractive and probably the best technical dancer in the B-town Hrithik Roshan .

Recently at IIFA in Srilanka, Jaccky was gung ho that if he plays cricket he'll only play in Hrithik’s team and he was extremely excited to play it.

Well, if papa Bhagnani is aware of his son’s admiration for Hrithik… then we may hear a musical starring Hrithik and Jackky soon... What say…?

IIFA 2010 Charity Cricket Match - Photos

Hrithik, Suniel to lead IIFA cricket teams

Salman Khan and Vinod Kambli among star players

The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will organise charity cricket matches in Colombo between Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers to help rehabilitate former Tamil Tiger child soldiers.

The initiative is part of the IIFA Awards 2010 to be held June 3-5 in the Sri Lankan capital.

Hrithik Roshan and Suniel Shetty would lead the two celebrity teams while Sri Lankan cricket captain Kumara Sangakkara would reprise his role.

"I am actually very delighted and very, very proud to be part of team IIFA. Colombo here we come," said Hrithik at the IIFA press meet.

"It is a great honour to play with the Sri Lankan cricketing greats and my friends in the fraternity. I support the initiative of 'Cricket for Children' and IIFA Hands for Humanity and hope to put in my best efforts as a captain of a team towards the noble cause," he added.

The IIFA XIs will comprise actors Salman Khan and Dino Morea and ex-cricketers Vinod Kambli and Kiran More among others. Sangakkara's team will include Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahila Jayawardene.

Suniel Shetty said: "I am very, very excited about the matches because I am very passionate about the sport."

Why are the celebrities divided into two teams?

"Many celebrities showed interest to take part in the cricket match so we have divided them into two teams," said Sabbas Joseph, Director Wizcraft International.

Kiran More added: "Playing matches would be very interesting. I am going to Sri Lanka after a long time. Last I went there in 1993; we won the series that time. We haven't won a series, so hopefully this time we will be able to win the people's heart in Sri Lanka."

How Hrithik stopped traffic in New York

He ran half a mile across the busy 42nd Street to meet his fans at the 'Kites' premiere

Hrithik Roshan proved a real traffic-stopper when he sprinted across 42nd Street in New York to meet his eager fans gathered for the premiere of his much-talked about film 'Kites'.

When Hrithik along with his co-star Barbara Mori, director Anurag Basu, wife Sussanne, parents Rakesh and Pinky Roshan, and other members of the team reached Times Square on May 16, he was told to wave out to hordes of Indian fans who had been standing on the other side of the street since morning for a glimpse of the star.

The star made a dash across the bustling street from the venue of the premiere to eager fans across the road.

"Hrithik did indeed dash across the 42nd Street from our red carpet to waiting fans across the road. And we aren't about crossing just any busy street at peak hour. The 42nd Street is a gigantic universe. Hrithik ran across a good half a mile to get to his fans," Sanjeev Lamba of Reliance Big Pictures told IANS.

Hrithik's considerate gesture towards fans at the premiere created panic for the tense and anxious 'Kites' team.

"We had to halt all traffic on 42nd Street for Hrithik to cross. So we can finally say Hrithik is the first traffic-stopper from Bollywood to make the crossover," said Lamba.

Not just a dash across the busiest street to meet his fans, Hrithik and his dad also made impromptu arrangements for about 500 fans to be accommodated in an extra screen at the AMC Empire theatre.

Rakesh Roshan said: "What could we do? There were 400-500 of Hrithik's fans who wanted to see the film. There were women crying, girls tearing their hair and threatening to commit suicide."

In addition to the 700-seater at the AMC Empire theatre, a smaller 500-seater screener was rented for extra fans at the last minute.

Why Hrithik got emotional

On a promotional tour for 'Kites' in the US, he watched his debut 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai'

It was an emotional moment for actor Hrithik Roshan, as he witnessed a screening of his debut movie ‘Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai’ in New York and talked about his decade-long Bollywood journey leading to super stardom.

The 36-year-old, who is on a promotional tour for his upcoming international love story ‘Kites’ in the US, was in New York to present a special screening of his launch vehicle at the BIG Cinemas Manhattan in Midtown East to an audience of competition winners.

Hrithik shared with the audiences anecdotes from his early days as an actor and his overnight rise to stardom after ‘Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai’ in 2000. He also introduced ‘Kites’ where he has teamed up with Mexican actress Barbara Mori.

A love story about an Indian man's affair with a Latin woman and their predicament as they don't understand each other's language, ‘Kites’ is about their thrilling journey filled with precious moments and unexpected betrayal.

Produced by his father Rakesh Roshan and directed by Anurag Basu, ‘Kites’ is being distributed and marketed by Reliance BIG Pictures. The movie premieres today (May 16) at the AMC Empire theatre at Times Square.

"We are pleased to have Hrithik Roshan join us at BIG Cinemas Manhattan, giving us an opportunity to introduce him to our audiences," said Anil Arjun, CEO of Reliance MediaWorks, that operates the BIG Cinemas brand of cinema-chain worldwide, at the event.

Karan extends his holiday for 'Kites'

He'll be in New York for his buddy Hrithik's international premiere

Karan Johar has extended his holiday in New York to attend the premiere of Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Kites' at Times Square today (May 16).

"It's a big film for the Roshans who are very close to me and Shah Rukh (Khan). The success of 'Kites' is also very important to the film industry. I've a release 'I Hate Luv Storys' coming up in July. And if 'Kites' works, it'd mean favourable things for my films," Karan told IANS over the phone from New York.

The Hindi version of Hrithik and Mexican actress Barbara Mori-starrer 'Kites' will have its worldwide release May 21, while the crisp and short English version, edited by Brett Ratner, will hit the screens May 28. The film is produced by Rakesh Roshan and directed by Anurag Basu. Reliance Big Pictures is distributing the movie.

Karan recently released the shortened version of his film 'My Name Is Khan' in New York, and the edited version of 'Kites' will also be screened there.

"New York is an important venue for Bollywood. Shortened version of 'My Name Is Khan' was released here last week. Now it's a shortened international version of 'Kites'. So we are working towards the same goal of taking Bollywood to the West," said Karan.

Shah Rukh, who can't attend 'Kites' premiere as he's shooting for 'Ra.One', made sure his wife represents them both at this important occasion in the Roshans' life.

Gauri travelled to New York with Hrithik's better half Sussanne and they shopped before the grand premiere of 'Kites'.

"Gauri (Khan) and Sussanne Roshan are here. We're having the time of our lives. I am not thinking about work at all. Just enjoying myself," said Karan.

Incidentally, Karan had gone to New York with the express purpose of writing his next screenplay. But he has drawn a blank.

"At the moment I'm all geared for the 'Kites' premiere. I can't wait to see it," he said.

Hrithik loses his cool with the media

He was mobbed by the media in Shirdi, where he had gone to pray with his family

Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, who went with his family to the holy town of Shirdi today (May 8) to pray for the success of his forthcoming movie 'Kites', was left disappointed after being mobbed by the media.

"Visited Shirdi this morning, a family tradition before each release since decades. Dad, mom, Su (wife Sussane) and me. But today was different... it took effort to pray with 30 media cameras feeding off every private moment... tried to feel peace... couldn't," Hrithik posted on his Twitter page.

The actor says he lost his patience -- after a point.

"Can't believe they can now enter god's shrine for TRPs (Television Rating Points). Polite words requesting (privacy) were ignored. Right now I'm trying to forgive myself for losing my cool. But I guess when it comes to family, any man would do the same," he said.

Hrithik, who stars opposite Mexican actress Barbara Mori for 'Kites', is known for his calm nature. He said he reacted strongly because he felt his privacy with his family was being invaded.

But now he is feeling guilty.

"For d (the) first time in 10 years as an actor, today I felt my privacy being invaded. What they did was wrong. But I wish I could've risen above and given them all a big hug. We're all human, we're all the same. Only love can heal...," the 36-year-old said.

'Kites' is produced by his father Rakesh Roshan and is distributed by Reliance Big Pictures. It will release May 21 in over 60 countries.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has wished Hrithik success for the movie.

"I send you peace my friend. A piece of love... a piece of success and a large piece of life, love and light to you in abundance," Shah Rukh posted to Hrithik.

Hrithik's a Roman emperor now

His regal bearing in 'Jodhaa Akbar' helped for this new avatar in the Milano cookies ad

He's played the role of Mughal ruler Akbar in 'Jodhaa Akbar', and now Hrithik Roshan is all set to play a Roman emperor in a new TV commercial.

Directed by Indrajit Nattoji, the ad is for cookie brand Milano for which Hrithik is the brand ambassador.

"Set against a background of 10,000 warriors, we are almost filming a 'Gladiator' (movie) in 30 seconds... We’ll be going the way of the Hollywood hit '300'... 20 extra warriors are going to multiply into 10,000 (and) putting Hrithik in an uber cool period, packaging in 30 seconds was a high," Nattoji said.

"I was also influenced by his classical good looks reminiscent of a Greek god," added the director who admits Hrithik’s regal bearing as a Mughal emperor in 'Jodhaa Akbar' helped in determining his new avatar.

The first phase of the ad has been shot in Mehboob Studios in Mumbai and the second phase that involves a war scene is scheduled to begin in Gran Sasso Campo, 150 km from Rome, around mid May.

Hrithik's costume for ad has been designed by Sanjeev Mulchandani.

The post-production of the ad will be done in Malaysia.

Hrithik's 'Kites' to fly high across the world

Widest ever release for Bollywood with simultaneous openings in India, US and Canada

In what will be the widest ever release for any Indian Bollywood production, 'Kites', the eagerly-anticipated romantic adventure starring Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, will open simultaneously in India, the US, Canada and other countries on May 21.

The Rakesh Roshan production, directed by Anurag Basu, will be released by Reliance BIG Pictures (RBEL) on more than 2,000 screens simultaneously, including over 200 in the US, RBEL announced Thursday.

Shot completely on location in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles, 'Kites' is a unique Bollywood film in a number of ways, not the least of which is the fact that a reworked English language version, designed to extend the reach of the original, will be launched in select engagements one week later.

Entitled 'Kites: The Remix', it is being presented by Brett Ratner, who oversaw its creation. In the US, 'Kites: The Remix' will be released in association with Mark Urman's Paladin, and will open in several major markets, including New York and Los Angeles, for the Memorial Day holiday weekend beginning May 28.

Produced on an epic scale, and set primarily against the lavish backdrop of Las Vegas, 'Kites' tells the story of two star-crossed lovers who are destined to be together even though each is betrothed to another.

Reliance BIG Pictures CEO, Sanjeev Lamba, commented "'Kites' is a very important film for Reliance with a story that has international appeal. By releasing the original Hindi version and Brett Ratner's 'Remix' a week apart, we feel that we can reach the largest possible audience, including the younger demographic for whom 2+ hours is a challenge".

As of May 21, 'Kites' will play at all traditional Indian film venues around the world, including Reliance's own newly-opened Big Cinema on E. 59th Street in Manhattan, New York.

However, the vast majority of the initial screens will be major-chain, mainstream commercial theatres, as well as specialty cinemas catering to foreign film-going audiences.
