Asin in trouble

After Salman Khan, it is the turn of Asin to face the wrath of politicos in Chennai. Asin has been criticised for shooting for Ready in Sri Lanka. Apparently, certain politicians in Chennai are gambling on a recent decision by a filmmakers' association that they will boycott films that are shot in Sri Lanka. And they are making it very clear that Asin has upset them by shooting in Sri Lanka for Ready with Salman Khan.

But Asin is unsure as to why she is being blamed, since she did not decide on the location. As an actress, she has to shoot where the director decides wants her to. But this has caused fresh worry for the actress who will be travelling to Tamil Nadu to complete a Tamil film she is acting in. She hopes this trouble will not cause her problems during its shoot.

Salman Khan, Livin' like a president of Sri Lanka

Salman Khan was moved to a snazzier suite while shooting in Colombo, Sri Lanka for the first schedule of Anees Bazmee's Ready.

The actor had been put up in a normal suite at the Cinnamon Grand in the Lankan capital city. Producer Bhushan Kumar confirms the move -- from a 'Regular' suite to the 'Presidential' one, which is as big as a villa. "Yes, he's staying at the Presidential Suite at the hotel."

The bigger suite has a private garden, a gym, and a kitchen. It will also house a workstation with a computer and an Internet setup so the actor can stay connected to the outside world. A source adds, "He also gets a personal chef and a team of assistants to tend to his needs."

Apparently, security concerns (Khan offended some people by attending an awards event held there this year) and the producers (T-Series) wanting to make Salman feel at home prompted this move. The shoot continues till mid-July.

Ajay Kapoor of T-Series adds, "He's like family to us, so we will go all out to make sure he has a comfortable stay during the shoot of Ready."

Salman Khan's 'Ready'

Bollywood super star Salman Khan last week arrived in Sri Lanka to commence shooting the film Ready.

Initially scheduled to be shot on location in Mauritius, Khan’s Ready was shifted to Sri Lanka within a matter of days after the Bollywood star’s visit to Sri Lanka to attend the IIFA awards earlier in the month.

The film director Anees Bazmee’s decision to shift the shooting of the movie from Mauritius to Sri Lanka came amidst much protest from the South Indian film industry, which has now threatened to boycott Ready once released.

Khan’s firm decision to shoot Ready in Sri Lanka and support to build the country’s image amidst such protest has however helped score brownie points with his Bollywood fans in Colombo.

Khan arrived in the country last week with a cast and crew of 140. Star of the movie Ghajini, Asin, is to star opposite Khan in the movie. Asin had earlier starred alongside Khan in the movie London Dreams.

Some of the other cast members of Ready are Manoj Pahwa, Anooradha Singh, Sharat Saxena, Manoj Joshi, Rajiv Kachroo, Mithilesh Chaturvedi, Eva Grover, Paresh Rawal, et al.

The Ready crew has already identified several locations in Colombo and outskirts to shoot the movie. The location for shooting last Thursday (24) was Cinnamon Lakeside.

Khan made his entrance to the Lakeside hotel around 3.30 p.m. from the Taj Samudra Hotel where he is residing, flanked by four security personnel from the Ministerial Security Division (MSD).
Members of the crew directed him to the location site, which was by the pool and towards the Beira Lake.

The area instantly attracted hundreds of fans including hotel staff, who stood gazing adoringly at Khan, who at ease, nonchalantly munched short eats as he worked.

Once the shooting got underway, The Sunday Leader sat down with Line Producer of Ready and head of Film Location Services (Pvt) Limited, veteran film maker Chandran Ratnam.
Ratnam said that a cast and crew of 140 had arrived in the country to shoot Ready.

“After the IIFA, the Sri Lanka Tourist Board had invited him to shoot his new movie in Sri Lanka and since Salman had enjoyed the country, he had agreed to shift to Colombo from Mauritius,” Ratnam said.

He said that the 30-day shoot is to be carried out at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Water’s Edge, Taj Exotica in Bentota (not confirmed yet) and another lakeside location, which is yet to be identified.

Sanjanna (Asin), an orphan lands in India to be with her uncles – Narendra and Tulsi who both are greedy and want to gulp down their niece’s property, which Sanjana had inherited.

Prem falls for Sanjana and decides to teach her uncles a lesson. But Prem makes a fool of them by getting friendly with them and then bringing his full family posing off as billionaires, and traps them by getting the uncles’ brothers-in-law to marry house maids.

For the sake of his son’s love Rajveer too poses as a bank manager and tells the uncles that the day Sanjana’s parent died, her parent’s owed the bank billions of dollar and says that they either sell their property or disown the girl.

To get rid of Sanjana they trap Prem… so that once he marries Sanjana… it is Prem who has to clear off the debts.

But on the day of the marriage, Prem’s game gets exposed and both the uncles’ brothers-in-law want revenge.

Finally Prem manages to put sense in to the two brothers that they had promised their sister (Sanjana’s mother) at the time of her death, that they would look after Sanjana as their own daughter. They then realise their greed and Prem inherits the property.

Bollywood film ‘Ready’ being shot here

Bollywood actor Salman Khan with South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal began shooting the new movie “Ready” in Colombo yesterday. This is the first mega blockbuster shoot in Sri Lanka after the Indian International Film Academy (IIFA) awards festival held in early this month.

The film stars arrived last morning, and movie was being shot at prominent locations in Colombo and in the South during the team’s 15-day stay in the country.

The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC) had threatened South Indian actress Asin Thottumkal to stop her movies being distributed if she went ahead with the shooting of her movie in Sri Lanka. Unmindful of the threats by the SIFCC, Mr. Khan and the film’s producers decided to go ahead with the shoot in Sri Lanka. The movie “Ready” was originally to have been shot in Mauritius.

IIFA-projects associate vice president Shefali Munshi said that on behalf of President Mahinda Rajapaksa they applauded Salman Khan and movie team of “Ready” for shooting the movie in Sri Lanka. She also thanked the Sri Lankan government for its support and hospitality.

Indian media reports said Salman Khan had convinced film producer and director Anees Bazmi to shoot the film in Sri Lanka. Mr. Bazmi sent his crew to scout the country for jungle locales, and resorts for the crew to stay in. Buoyed by the feedback, he agreed to Mr. Khan’s suggestion and the Sri Lanka government wasted no time in giving permission.

Sri Lanka provides Z grade security to Asin and Salman

The Rajapakse government in Sri Lanka has rolled out the red carpet to Salman Khan and Asin who have started the shoot of their Anees Bazmee directed Ready in Colombo.

The President's office is monitoring the security provided to the Bollywood film unit as they have come as guests of Rajapakse.

Salman was so impressed by the Sri Lankan President that he immediately called up the producers of Ready who was planning to shoot the film in Mauritius and asked them to cancel it and go for Sri Lanka.

Salman and Asin will be shooting in the picturesque sea side locations of Kandy and in deep forest areas, never seen before in Bollywood movies. It is going to be a one month shooting schedule for the Ready unit.
