A Holiday photo shoot...

How do you think you would prepare for a photo shoot? I am sure such you would want to put forth your best effort and dust every surface, polish wood floors, touch-up paint and make things sparkle, right? I think that is a good plan, too, but it just didn't happen that way for me when Matthew and Jenny Mead arrived to shoot a holiday feature at my home. With five stories due to Matthew (by noon on the day before he was to arrive) for the gardening magazine we are working on, I had been basically chained to my desk all week. My house in a relative shambles, I hit send - files attached - jumped from my chair (my daughter in tow), and raced to the grocery store for *luxuries* like bread, milk, and eggs. Back home, I gathered up a few pretties and headed out to the little cottage by the sea which Matthew and Jenny were renting for the upcoming week. There, I made up a bed with a pretty quilt and sheets, threw open some windows and stocked the fridge with some Canadian goodies like (real) Cadbury chocolate and Kraft peanut butter. You know, the basics. Once home, I began to declutter (not clean) the house while my husband set to cleaning out the garage to make room for the props...

Etsy-itis!!

As I continue work on HOLIDAY and other projects, I have discovered some of the most talented Etsy artists and it is proving to be a bit of a bad good habit!

Because I am loving all of the feminine and ruffly clothes, in shades of pale pinks, grey and yellow - and all of the snappy navy and white/cream, I have been on the hunt for some great jewelry.
I like pretty jewelry, and what better source for redesigned vintage baubles than Etsy?

I have been on the hunt for the perfect yellow necklace, and I am happy to say I have found it. It is from the talented artist, Crystal Beutler, and I can't wait to wear it!

I am taking it to Arizona when I go to meet NieNie. Crystal designed the All is Well necklace NieNie wore when she hiked the Y, one year after her accident:

And I picked up this stunner (from Nest Pretty Things), which is so pretty it literally made me sigh when I saw it:

Unfortunately, so did almost every other piece she has for sale.

I also purchased these little gloves from another Etsy vendor, which don't really fit my hands too well, but Sophie will love playing with. Not sure why I bought them, but they just appealed to me:

I bought a little piece of artwork from this talented gal:

(titled, Where I Go to Think...)

Do you see what I mean? It is dangerous, I say, dangerous!!

I think I've become one of those people who works in a pretty store and spends her pay-cheque on the merchandise!!

What about you, are you hooked on Etsy??

By the way, if you are an Etsy vendor, did you know you can purchase affordable advertising in Holiday and win the chance for your shop to be given a full-page ad spread in the magazine?

Where oh where can she be?

    Poor litle blog.

Left all alone, unattended, to greet her loyal guests while mama left her be, neglected.

    Bad mother!

    Excuses?

Sure. But who really wants to hear them?

Let's just say I've been plunked at my new little desk working away on other projects. Some you know about, and others I can't reveal just yet.

I have also been doing a bit of clothes shopping (gasp!) for my upcoming trip to Arizona to meet NieNie.

Christmas in Arizona, in 100 degree heat?

What does one bring, besides lots of deodorant?
A hat for my (assuredly) frizzy hair?

Sophie thinks she should come because, in her books, Arizona can be considered tropical and thus she could scratch that off her list of things to do (go somewhere tropical!). She also saw photos of NieNie's girls, Claire and Jane, and she thought she would have a lot in common with them.

She definitely shares their cheeks and freckles:

I will miss my freckly girl (and boys!) while I am away.
Though I am sure I will come back with loads of freckles to share...!

Tomorrow, I will show you the desk in its entirety. Don't get too excited. I love it (I really do!), but it's no fancy pants office make-over like others create. Because, if you are looking for fancy offices, you'll be at the wrong blog!

Now, have you a great holiday cookie recipe? One that you make each and every Christmas, package up as gifts to family, friends or teachers or that is the envy of holiday bake sales? Do you want to have your mother's or grandmother's (or their makle counterparts) cherished cookie recipe published in a holiday magazine? The head on over here and submit your recipe for a chance to be one of ten cookie recipes featured in Holiday with Matthew Mead.

I am thinking of submitting these mutants:

What do you think my chances are?

A Gift with Purchase?

Etsy and NieNie!

Looking ahead to a very special HOLIDAY!

My friend, Matthew Mead, is an expert at celebrating the holidays and bringing out the beauty of the seasons. Back in 2006, Matthew - as a style editor with Country Home magazine - launched his first issue of Holiday with Matthew Mead via Meredith Publishing. However, as many other projects, commitments and books filled his schedule, Holiday got put on the back burner. Still, Matthew always dreamed of bringing it back to his readers and bringing his focus back to his love of the holidays and sharing the many creative ideas that occupy imagination.

Over the years and following the success of Flea Market Style, Matthew's fans wrote many letters and emails asking him to bring back Holiday and all its goodness.

    And he listened.

I am happy and proud to announce that Holiday with Matthew Mead is coming back for Holiday 2010. I will be involved as a contributing editor and will help Matthew and Jenny in their quest to bring you a magazine that has been lovingly conceived and will be sold online via our new website - and limited quantities will be sold and delivered straight to your mailbox this October. So, head on over to Holiday with Matthew Mead.com and learn how Matthew wants to include YOU (and a chance to have your home featured in the magazine!)and discover our very special guests/features (hint: a very famous and much-loved blogger who has survived a life-threatening experience and is working hard to regain her life as a busy wife and mother).

Head on over and see what all of the fuss is about. Discover what Holiday 2010 entails and how you can get one without the usual seek and search. Who knows, perhaps you will even find yourself in the pages of the magazine!
